Middlewich FAB Festival announces `Showcase Americana` for Saturday 16th June

Middlewich, Cheshire; Organisers of Middlewich FAB Festival are thrilled to announce their “Showcase Americana” on the afternoon of Saturday 16th June, featuring a fantastic line up of country and Americana artists, who will perform on the Main Stage at Market Field.

Continuing the tradition of free concerts on Saturday and Sunday, Middlewich Town Council have put together this FAB programme of artists on Saturday from 12.30pm, all of a similar genre following the success of ‘Ward Thomas’ in 2015. With a mix of local, national and international performers, six artists will make up the Showcase.

`Tim Eriksen` is acclaimed for transforming American tradition with his startling interpretations of old ballads, love songs, shape-note gospels and dance tunes from New England and Southern Appalachia. He combines hair-raising vocals with inventive accompaniment on banjo, fiddle, guitar and bajo sexto – a twelve string Mexican acoustic bass – creating a distinctive hardcore Americana sound. His musical collaborations and credits are too numerous to list here – check him out online or better still, see him here/live at Middlewich FAB Festival!

‘The Cody Sisters’ hail from Denver Colorado and these young women and their bass playing Dad have so many different influences, it’s often difficult to define them. Their experience blends Old Time, Swing, Gypsy Jazz, Folk, and Modern Bluegrass together in a completely unique sound that stays with audiences for weeks to come. Their original songs and sound always leaves a lasting impression.

`Cinder Hill’ is a British Country Music duo from Middlewich, and so are familiar with their home town’s festival. Identical twins Katie and Hayley have a lifelong love of country music which inspires their Country/Americana sound. Intensely interwoven harmonies form the heart of their beautifully crafted songs, which have all the storytelling and relatability you would expect from this heartfelt genre.

‘De Fuego’ is a sensational guitar duo, playing energetic instrumental flamenco and rumba-based music. The group has come a long way since forming in 2010 and their humble beginnings as buskers in London’s markets. Soon after they started to get bookings in festivals because of their upbeat style and have performed at Glastonbury Festival, Secret Garden Party, Shambala and Middlewich. (look out for Edina`s unique guitar workshop on Sunday)

`Katie Mac` is a singer/songwriter from Liverpool, influenced by Laura Marling, Joni Mitchell and Regina Spektor. With comparisons to Patti Smith and Kate Bush she has taken her music to the next level by adding five band members and self-organising two UK tours. With support by BBC Radio 6 Music Katie and the band have been opened up towards a national audience, and their new EP produced by Sam Duckworth is funded by Merseyside Arts Foundation.

‘Fine Lines’ is a project started by singer/songwriter David Boardman in 2016. As a longtime lover of all things folky and rootsy, David has been writing acoustic-based music for many years. ‘Fine Lines’ is centred around the core duo of David and co-vocalist Zoe Blythe and accompanied by a cast of strolling musicians. They will be playing at Middlewich FAB Festival as a trio.

Dave Thompson, FAB Festival Organiser for Middlewich Town Council comments, “Since Ward Thomas we’ve had many country artists asking to play, so I’ve put together this showcase to highlight just how good the music is” Continuing on, Dave states, “It’s great to feature local stars ‘Cinder Hill’ alongside highly respected artist like ‘The Cody Sisters and Tim Eriksen- and only in Middlewich will you see this sort of quality for FREE!”

Tickets for Friday night’s concert featuring ‘Peter Hook & The Light’ on June 15th are still available to buy from www.fabfestival.co.uk/
