The Norman Middlewich Festival attracted approximately 12,000 people to
Harbutt's Field over the two days of 17th & 18th September 2005.
Clearly it was enjoyed by so many people and the photographs from the event
will be posted as soon as possible. Feel free to mail them here.
Some comments about the event are always welcome and Rebecca Favell, who is
the International Group Leader of The Albini Household (an independent living
history and historical interpretation group that covers the period 1066 - 1485
and is involved in events across Britain and Europe) said...
"I am writing to you on behalf of The Albini Household who were one of
the re-enactment societies subcontracted by Conquest to help at the Norman
Festival last weekend. We wanted to write to say how much we enjoyed the event
and the welcoming attitude of everyone involved. It is rare to visit somewhere
with such a wonderful community spirit, especially where the there is such
involvement from many people who represent the area politically. We particularly
enjoyed being invited to your family service and those of us that attended found
it a very special experience.
We hope all you future events are as successful, and thank you once
again."
Our appreciation to The Albini Household and all the other
organisations involved in making the re-enactments so entertaining and
accurate. Their work was superb throughout the weekend.s
There are so many people to thank for the work that was put in over the
weekend that it would be impossible to list them here. There are certain
individuals that must be mentioned of course...
| Jonathan Williams |
The Event Manager, always ready with humour to dispel any
difficult situations. Fortunately not too many of them arose over
the weekend. |
| Dave Thompson |
Event Organiser, first major festival since becoming the
Middlewich Town Council Event Organiser |
| Geoff Williams |
As with previous festivals, Geoff is the rock that the
organisers and others can turn to whenever extra help is required.
Where his energy comes from is impossible to discover. |
| Tim Strickland, MBE |
Without whom, none of the information would have been shared
as widely as it was |
| Lord Vernon |
The present day Baron of Kinderton whose family put so much
into this area over generations. |
| Ann Winteron, MP |
Despite her incredibly busy schedule, Lady Winterton arrived
in plenty of time for the Festival Service beginning at 10.30am, took time
to look at the Festival Exhibition on Hightown, stopped off to be
entertained by the workers at the Community Dig, then spent a huge amount
of time on Harbutt's Field, including helping putting the Union Flag the
correct way up. |
| Jean-Marie Drouet |
The Mayor (or Marie) of Venables in Normandy. With his
wife and the accompanying band of real Normans, they brought colour, the
French language and a wonderful selection of cheeses to our town. |
| Steve Venables |
And his fellow American "Venables". All of
whom seem to know more than most of the people of Middlewich about the
rich history of the Norman period in and around our town. |
| Jim Basford |
The Mayor of Middlewich in 2004/5, Jim has no false airs and
graces and spent almost all of Saturday on his feet at the gate ensuring
it was properly controlled. |
| Simon McGrory |
Another former Mayor (2002/3) Simon mucked in like Jim and
helped wherever necessary. |
| Middlewich Clean Team |
Kept the town looking fabulous. If you are a stranger
to Middlewich, the clean team are the ones out in their "High-vis"
jackets, keeping our town at the high level of cleanliness that it is. |
