The following are just some of the awards that people, groups and the Town Council have received.  If you have been missed, please accept our apologies and email "webmaster@middlewich.org.uk"

2006

October    Caroline O'Brien is named the Cheshire Rural Woman of the Year at the World Rural Woman's Day event held at Byley Village Hall on Thursday, 19th October.  Caroline was nominated by Cheshire County Council's Rural Development Department for her "boundless energy and enthusiasm in promoting and developing the Market Town of Middlewich."

Cheshire Community Council's Community Pride judges have recognised the importance of the Archaeological Dig that took place in Middlewich last year, awarding it the title of "Community Based Project for the Congleton District.  Organised by many people, including the Town Clerk, Jonathan Williams, who explained that "The dig was professionally led, but also quite unique in that members of the public also took part in it."  The Community Pride Award's evening was held at Tatton Park, attended by the Mayor, Cllr Jean Eaton, Jonathan and Middlewich Community Pride members, Janet Chisholm and Chris Overton.

September    Congleton Borough Council's Local Hero Awards have given two residents in the town the title of "Local Hero."  Pam Johnson, one of the founders of the Sandbach & District Talking Newspapers service, has been named as a Local Hero in recognition of her long service to the community (20 years and counting!).  Brian White was nominated by the Middlewich Clean Team for his tireless work for the people of Middlewich.  The Awards ceremony took place on 29th September.

May    The Bull Ring is awarded a "Green Apple Award" for the way it has improved the environment.  Although being described as an "amphitheatre" by the press, the semi circular design of the Bull Ring has been recognised as part of the The Green Organisation's continuing campaign to promote the "positive side of environmental endeavour".

2005

September    Reg Hambley wins the "Best Front Garden in the Northwest" from the judges of the Northwest in Bloom competition.  In addition, Middlewich was awarded a discretionary award for the "Best Community Effort".  Last year's success was such that it would have been difficult to compete with the larger towns (i.e. Southport) of the region, yet Middlewich still managed to receive the 2nd Runner Up for the large town category (population 10,000 - 35,000).  A Fantastic achievement for all concerned with ensuring the Town looks as good as it does, and an especially wonderful achievement for Reg.

Also in September, the Cheshire Community Council awarded the "Best Project in Congleton" to the Middlewich Rose Festival and gave the town third place in the "Best Kept Village" competition for the small town category.  Well done to all concerned with the Rose Queen Festival, especially to the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Jean Eaton, who is largely responsible for the resurrecting of the Festival, although Jean is more than happy to acknowledge the help of all the other committee members and volunteers that have made the event so vibrant.

Last Act of September was the first Congleton Local Heroes event, organised by Town Councillor Paul Edwards.  Although not the only judge, Paul was as pleased as the rest of Middlewich when the Middlewich Folk and Boat Festival Committee won the "Best Group" award in the Congleton area.  Well done to them and please look at their website for further information.

August    The Town Council have become the second Town in Cheshire to receive recognition in the form of "Quality Status".  For those of you interested in the detailed criteria for this award, please click here.  For the rest, suffice it to say that there are many criteria that the town had to meet and that it was an independent, external Accreditation Panel that decided Middlewich Town Council was good enough.  A celebration and information evening was held on Wednesday 26th October at Middlewich Community Church on Brooks Lane.  Please contact the Town's Event Coordinator, Dave Thompson for further information.

2004

September    Middlewich wins the "Northwest in Bloom" competition.  Whilst it is the Town Council that officially enter this competition each year, it is due to the hard work of many people and groups, most notably the Community Pride Group.  It would be unfair to name individuals as there are so many.  The Community Pride Group organise the annual Middlewich in Bloom competition and have received funding directly from the Town Council every year since it was set up.

March    The Association for Heritage Interpretation award Middlewich Town Council with a "Commendation" for The Roman Middlewich Project.

2003

November    Stephen Dent is recognised as the Most Valuable Volunteer by the Cheshire Awards for Tourism Skills, for his work as Chairman of the Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival

September    Three awards!

Northwest in Bloom officially describe Middlewich as the "Most Improved Town."

Cheshire Community Council award Middlewich the "Most Vibrant Town in Cheshire" as well as awarding The Roman Middlewich Project the "Best Project in Congleton Borough".

2002

December    In the Queen's New Year Honours List, Tim Strickland is made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) "For services to Archaeology and to the community in Middlewich, Cheshire."  For a photo of Tim receiving his MBE from the Queen, click here.
